Precautions for use of rotary drilling rig swivel

The swivel of rotary drilling rig is mainly used to lift and hang the kelly bar and drilling tools. It is not a very valuable part on the rotary drilling rig, but it plays a very important role. Once there is a fault, the consequences will be very serious.

The lower part of the swivel is connected with the kelly bar, and the upper part is connected with the steel wire rope of the main winch of the rotary drilling rig. With the lifting and lowering of the steel wire rope, the drill bit and kelly bar are driven to lift and lower. The swivel bears the lifting load of the main coil, in addition, it eliminates the torque output by the power head, and protects the main coil wire rope from curling, breaking, twisting and other phenomena due to rotation. Therefore, the swivel shall have sufficient tensile strength and flexible rotation ability under large tension.

Precautions for using the swivel:

1. When installing the bearing, the upper bearing should be "back" down and "face" up. The bottom piece is installed with the "back" up and the "face" down, opposite to the other bearings.

2. Before the swivel is used, it should be filled with lubricating grease, and the lower joint should be rotated to ensure that it can rotate freely without abnormal noise and stagnation.

3. Check whether the appearance of the swivel is damaged, whether the connection between the two pins is firm, and whether there is abnormal leakage of grease.

4. Check the oil quality of the spilled grease. If there are foreign objects such as mud and sand mixed in the grease, it means that the seal of the swivel has been damaged and should be repaired or replaced immediately to avoid other failures of the rotary drilling rig.

5. Different grades of grease shall be selected according to different climates. If it is not used for a long time, please fill the swivel with grease.
